What exactly are Wax Melts?

If you’re in the habit of using wax melts, you may find this a strange question. However, many people are yet to discover the joy of having the delicious fragrances of wax melts perfuming their home and may still be using candles for this purpose – or even nasty chemical sprays.

So, let’s start with the basics. Wax melts – also known as wax tarts – are very similar to candles insofar as they are pieces of wax that give off a fragrance when melted, but unlike candles, they don’t have a wick.

You may notice a scent from them when they’re not lit, but their main purpose is to be warmed up slowly using a wax warmer that can either be electric or use a tealight.

You can view our range of electric wax warmers here and our tealight warmers here.

  • Fragrances

Our wax melts come in a huge range of scents to suit all tastes, from Bubblegum or Raspberry Sloe Gin to Thai Lime and Mango or English Pear and Freesia.

At only £5.99 for 15 melts, they are exceptionally good value and you can even choose our Pick and Mix option with either 15 melts in three different fragrances or 40 melts in a choice of eight.

  • How do I use a warmer and wax melts?

Wax melts are really easy to use – just take one (or more, depending on how strong you want the fragrance to be or how large your room is) and place it in your chosen warmer.

Next, light the tealight or switch on your electric warmer and when you’re finished, you simply switch off your electric warmer or blow out the tealight and the wax will solidify until you’re ready to use it again. It’s as easy as that!

Note that the wax doesn’t disappear into thin air as you use it, but it will lose its fragrance over time and need to be replaced.

  • Which kind of warmer should I choose?

Some people prefer electric wax tart burners as there is no flame and they may be considered a safer option, especially if there are children or pets in the home. This is an entirely personal choice though; there is no right or wrong or preferred type of wax melt warmer.

If you choose an electric warmer, please do hide the cable away so that it doesn’t become a trip risk and always take care, no matter whether you’re using an electric wax warmer or a tealight warmer, to never leave it unattended or in reach of children or pets.

Safety first – always!
